M&M FAQs

Learn more about our Kinderballet ‘Mummy/Daddy and Me’ classes below

Is it mums and dads only?

No, it’s not! Despite the name, children can participate with any trusted caregiver. We have had lots of grandparents, babysitters, nannies, aunties/uncles participate in our classes over the years.

What should my child and I wear to the class?

Children participating in the ‘Mummy/Daddy and Me’ class can wear whatever they are comfortable in. Most children wear their regular day-to-day clothing. Some wear dress ups - Emma Wiggle costumes are still on trend it seems! All that matters is that they can move easily. Bare feet are suitable for this class. If your child wants to wear Ballet shoes they can, however these must be purpose-made leather or canvas ballet shoes not toy Ballet shoes or street shoes with a hard sole as these are not safe to dance in.

For adults participating in the ‘Mummy/Daddy and Me’ program, we recommend comfortable clothing that you can easily move in. There is a bit of sitting on the floor at the start of each class before we get up and move around. We prefer adults to have bare feet or socks if possible.

What should I bring to the class?

Just yourselves and perhaps a water bottle! You don't need to bring anything else for the class.

I have an older/younger sibling with me on our dance day, is that ok?

Yes, it is! We often have older siblings sitting on the side watching, drawing, eating snacks etc during the class. We also often have babies sleeping/watching in their prams on the side or some parents wear their baby while participating in the class with their 2-3 year-old. We will support you in whatever you need to do to make the class work for your family.

I have no idea how my child will respond to this class…..

That’s ok! We expect absolutely anything and everything from this age-group in terms of how they will respond. We start with the 3 trial classes for this very reason. At your first trial class, your child may be hesitant to participate and want to be carried the whole time or they might be super excited and find it tricky to follow the teachers instructions (or they could be anywhere in between). All of that is ok and expected behaviour. By the third trial class, children have usually settled into the routine of the program a lot more than on day one and it is a lot easier to decide whether or not you want to continue for the rest of the term. Please note: even after the third trial class, we STILL expect them to behave like 2-3 year olds. We want these little ones to enjoy themselves and move their bodies so if they're doing that - great! Always feel free to chat to your teacher before or after class if you’re feeling unsure about how your child is going in the class.

I have an injury/health concern that might mean I won’t be able to do all of the class, is that ok?

We expect adult participants to participate as much as they are able to and that will be different for everyone. If there’s anything you’re not able to do such as jumping, sitting etc it’s a good idea to let your teacher know before class if you’re comfortable doing so. The most important thing is to be present and actively engaged in the class alongside your child.

What happens after I finish my 3-trial-classes?

Once you have completed your 3 trials, we will follow up with you to see if you would like to enrol in that class for the remainder of the term. If you decide to continue, you will then complete the 2024 enrolment form and pay for the classes remaining in the term.

Can I bring family/friends along to watch the class?

We prefer to just have the one adult and child who are participating in the class in attendance. It can be quite distracting to have extra people in the room watching every week. We have a Watching Day on the last class of every term. On Watching Day, you can invite some family and friends to come along and watch the class. We also have an End-of-Year Presentation Day in December when the dancers get a costume to wear on the day! More information on Presentation Day to come later in the year!

If you have family visiting from out of town and they won’t be around for Watching Day, it is ok to have them come and watch as a one-off but please let us know in advance by email so that we know that we will have visitors that day.

What do I do if I can’t make it to a class?

If you are doing your 3-class-trial we will just push the remaining trial class(es) back by a week. Please email us to organise this.

If you are enrolled in the ‘Mummy/Daddy and Me’ class and you have to miss a class, you can attend another ‘Mummy/Daddy and Me’ class on a different day as a make-up lesson. You can book your make-up lesson on any day within the term that the absence occurred. We can’t carry make-up classes over to the next term.
